Amber Johnson and Danielle Spaulding combined to throw a no-hitter as the (16-3) No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels to a win over the (3-17) Cal State Fullerton Titans. A four-run sixth inning with big hits from Anna Roberts and Danielle Spaulding led Carolina’s offense on the way to the Tar Heels’ 15th straight win. This is the fifth time this season that the Tar Heels have thrown a no-hitter.

Tar Heels Amber Brooks and Courtney Jones have been called into the U20 National Team Training Camp beginning next week. The U-20 team will play against two Women’s Professional Soccer clubs.

Nationally ranked North Carolina closes a 13-game home stand this week hosting William & Mary Tuesday and St. John’s Wednesday. Both games are slated for a 3 p.m. start and will be at Boshamer Stadium.

William & Mary starter Cole Shain outdueled Carolina’s Garrett Davis as the Tribe upset the No.11 Tar Heels 3-0 Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium. Three Tribe pitchers combined to throw a four-hit shutout in the win. Carolina’s Greg Holt shined in two innings of masterful relief work. The Tar Heels, who only had four hits and five base runners all day, fall to 10-2 overall. William & Mary improves to 6-4 on the season.

Right-handed pitcher Matt Harvey struck out 11 Michigan batters to spark a three-game Tar Heel sweep of the Wolverines and earn Progress Energey Tar Heel of the Week honors for March 1-7, 2010. Harvey, a junior from Mystic, Conn., was masterful in eight innings of work Friday, leading Carolina to a 4-2 victory. Harvey allowed no runs on three hits in eight innings of shut out ball. He earned his second win of the season and 16th of his career Friday. The junior struck out double-digit batters for the third time in his career. Harvey twice fanned the side Friday en route to his second dominating performance in as many weeks.
