North Carolina sophomore pitcher, Lori Spingola, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. Florida State’s Briana Hamilton was named ACC Player of the Week.

Kara Cannizzaro of the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team has been named the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for April 2-8, 2012 after scoring five goals in Carolina’s 14-11 victory over third-ranked Maryland last Saturday, giving the Tar Heels an unbeaten ACC regular-season at 5-0.

No. 24 North Carolina (27-10, 6-3 ACC) will wrap up an eight-game road swing as it travels to Greensboro, N.C., for a midweek doubleheader at UNC Greensboro (16-25, 6-9 Southern Conference). The Tar Heels and Spartans will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

North Carolina will look to bounce back from its first ACC series loss of the year Wednesday when the Tar Heels welcome in UNC Asheville for a 6 p.m. contest at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels are 16-5 at home this season and have posted a 7-1 mark in midweek games.

Three Tar Heels were part of the U.S. Under-21 Junior National Team that played four matches against England’s U21 team April 3-7 in Shropshire, England. The teams faced off at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

UNC senior Brennan Boyajian got the clinching victory for 21st-ranked North Carolina as the Tar Heels defeated 26th-ranked Florida State 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. After starting the season 3-4 against an arduous non-conference schedule, Coach Sam Paul’s team has now won eight of its past nine matches.

The No. 6 ranked North Carolina women’s golf teamfinished the Bryan National Collegiate tied for fourth, ending with a 28-over-par 892 total. Senior Catherine O’Donnell led the Tar Heels in the final round.

No. 3 Carolina was shutout for the second time in a three-game series for the first time since 1992 when Princeton when No. 9 Miami claimed a 4-0 win Sunday afternoon in Coral Gables, Fla. Freshman Benton Moss struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings of work as he fell to 2-2 on the year.
