No. 23 Tar Heels Visit Duke Monday

North Carolina enters a pivotal stretch of the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule Monday when the Tar Heels visit Duke at 7 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Carolina enters the contest 17-5 on the year and 7-2 in the ACC after a 64-56 win over Virginia Friday night. Duke is 18-3 on the season and 9-0 in league play after a 75-43 win over Wake Forest on Thursday. UNC is ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press poll and No. 24 in the coaches’ poll. Duke is ranked No. 5 in the AP poll and No. 6 in the coaches’ poll.

It wasn’t too long ago – less than a year, in fact – when it looked like Candace Wood might never play meaningful minutes in a Carolina uniform. Multiple knee surgeries, numerous complications/infections and years of rehab later, she’s a starter. And she’s become kind like a closing pitcher in baseball.

Crawley Named Carolina’s ACC Tournament Legend

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its eighth annual class of ACC Women’s Basketball Legends Thursday and former North Carolina standout and current Boston College head coach Sylvia Crawley was named UNC’s Legend. In addition to Crawley, former Carolina All-America Bernadette McGlade was named Georgia Tech’s Legend.

UNC Honors Standout Student-Athletes

Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and No. 25 North Carolina finally took command late to beat Wake Forest 75-71 on Sunday. Laura Broomfield (20 points and 18 rebounds) and Chay Shegog (19 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles, and Candace Wood added 10 points for the Tar Heels (16-5, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their fourth straight despite trailing by four points with four minutes remaining. Lakevia Boykin had 21 points, Chelsea Douglas added 13 and Secily Ray 11 for the Demon Deacons (12-9, 2-6), who scored the game’s first eight points and led 65-60 on Boykin’s layup with 4:07 left.
