The North Carolina rowing team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule with weekend of racing Nov. 7-8 at the Head of the Chattahoochee regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Tar Heels sent two eights and three fours down the Tennessee River course in a head racing format, in which each boat starts at a different time.

The North Carolina rowing team came away with wins by the varsity eight and varsity four in racing Sunday at the Occoquan Chase. In a day of racing on the Occoquan Reservoir, the Tar Heels gained valuable fall racing experience.

Four North Carolina student-athletes have been named to the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team for rowing, announced Friday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Tar Heels Kasey Munson, Chandler Sours, Katie Wood and Ruby Woodside were named to the 34-member squad.

The North Carolina rowing program has announced open tryouts for the 2009-10 season. The process will begin with an interest meeting on Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Pope Academic Center/Student-Athlete Development Center in Kenan Field House. (Click here for map.) Additional information on the tryouts, which will run Sept. 2-4, will be available at the meeting.

Five North Carolina rowers have been honored as National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), which announced its selections on Monday. Tar Heel student-athletes Kasey Munson, Chandler Sours, Brittany Walsh, Paige Wolf and Katie Wood earned the recognition, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.
