Tar Heels Seeking Would-Be Fencers

The UNC fencing team will hold an interest meeting for varsity tryouts on Thursday (Aug. 26), beginning at 5 p.m. in Fetzer Gym, Room 07. No prior fencing experience is necessary, and the program is seeking female and male undergraduate students who would like to represent UNC on the varsity, intercollegaite level.

Two Fencers Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

Eight members of North Carolina’s varsity athletic programs were among the UNC students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honorary society this spring. Caroline Boneparth (women’s soccer), Will Bondurant (swimming team manager), Marion Boulicault (women’s fencing), Ali Hawkins (women’s soccer), Meredith Newton (women’s lacrosse), Chip Peterson (men’s swimming), Brittany Walsh (rowing) and Kaitlin Williamson (women’s fencing) earned the honor in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

Tar Heels Finish 20th Overall At NCAA Championships

With three qualifiers in the men’s competition, the North Carolina fencing team finished 20th at the 2010 NCAA Championships, which wrapped up Sunday at Harvard’s Gordon Indoor Track Center. Juniors Eric Hsieh and Kevin Ziechmann and sophomore Kevin Nadeau represented the Tar Heels

Tar Heel Trio Competing At NCAA Championships

North Carolina sits at 21st overall following the first day of men’s competition Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships at Harvard’s Gordon Indoor Track Center. The Tar Heels are represented by three fencers – juniors Eric Hsieh (epee) and Kevin Ziechmann (sabre) and sophomore Kevin Nadeau (foil).

Tar Heels Wrap Up Season at Home

The North Carolina fencing team hosted Duke Friday night for the rare head-to-head matchup and found plenty in the occasion to celebrate, despite the fact the Blue Devils won both the men’s and women’s meets by scores of 17-10. In action at UNC’s Eddie Smith Field House, women’s foil was the bright spot for UNC, winning 5-4 in the only Tar Heel weapon victory for the night.

UNC Fencers Host Duke Friday

Kevin Ziechmann Earns CollegeFencing360.com Recognition

The North Carolina men’s and women’s fencing squads have added a dual meet against Duke to the season schedule and will host the Blue Devils on Friday evening at the Eddie Smith Field House. Action begins at 7 p.m. with women’s bouts taking place on three strips. The men’s competition will follow at approximately 8:15 p.m.
