Four Tar Heel field hockey players have been named to the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, announced Tuesday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. Senior Riley Foster was honored for the fourth time in her career and was joined on the 30-player squad by UNC juniors Elizabeth Drazdowski, Katelyn Falgowski and Jackie Kintzer.

North Carolina goalkeeper Jackie Kintzer earned her first international cap on Sunday, making her opening appearance with the U.S. National Team in a 3-0 loss to Argentina in Mendoza, Argentina. The U.S. squad is playing in a six-game test series Feb. 13-21.

The North Carolina field hockey and women’s soccer teams celebrated their 2009 national titles on Friday with a visit to the Governor’s Mansion. Bev Perdue, North Carolina’s first female governor, hosted a reception for the teams and spoke to the student-athlete and coaches about the impact they can – and do – have on children, and girls in particular.

On the heels of a national championship, North Carolina field hockey coach Karen Shelton has announced two changes to the UNC staff. Grant Fulton, a member of the coaching staff since 2005, has been promoted to associate head coach, and Garreth Ewing has joined the staff as an assistant coach.
