UNC Alum Lingo Retires From U.S. Team

After a decade as a member of the U.S. National Team and a career that included 190 international matches, North Carolina graduate Carrie Lingo has announced her retirement from competition. “Carrie was one of our all-time best,” said UNC coach Karen Shelton, who coached Lingo from 1997 to 2001. “Not only was she a exceptional student-athlete while at Carolina, she is an extraordinary human being. Her positivity, work ethic and great attitude have always set her apart.”

Tar Heels To Be Featured On CBS Sunday

The UNC field hockey team will be featured on the 2011 NCAA Fall Sports Highlight Show, which will air Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS. The one-hour program will include highlights from the cross country, field hockey, soccer, water polo and volleyball championships this fall.

Falgowski Named World All-Star

North Carolina’s Katelyn Falgowski has been named a 2011 World All-Star, as announced Thursday by the FIH, the international governing body for field hockey. Falgowski, a senior on the 2011 Tar Heel field hockey team who graduated from UNC this month, was the only U.S. player named to the 18-member women’s squad.The team was determined by voting on the FIH website earlier this month. It is intended to recognize the top players in the world based on their play in the past calendar year.

Two Tar Heels Among Pan Am Elite

Two former North Carolina players are among four U.S. players named to the 2011 Pan American Elite Team for women, announced Monday. Rachel Dawson and Jackie Kintzer were among 16 players named to the women’s team, which is selected every two years and recognizes the top players in the Pan American region.

Falgowski Nominated For Prestigious FIH Award

North Carolina senior Katelyn Falgowski has been announced as one of five nominees for the 2011 FIH Young Player of the Year Award, which recognizes the world’s best field hockey player under the age of 23. The candidates were announced Tuesday by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
