North Carolina senior Kara Wright placed third in the all-around at No. 4 Florida with a 39.200, tying her personal-best score, and has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Gymnast of the Week. Wright notched a 9.850 on floor, finishing in a four-way tie for fifth place. Also, the Virginia Beach native scored a 9.800 on vault and bars.

For the second week in a row, the University of North Carolina gymnastics team finished second to a top-10 opponent. The Tar Heels recorded their highest team total this season and Kara Wright tied her personal best in all-around, but the team could not keep pace with No. 4 Florida.

The University of North Carolina gymnastics team continues its challenging schedule on Friday when the Tar Heels travel to Gainesville, Fla., to face No. 4 Florida and Ball State at 7 p.m. The meet is Carolina’s third straight against a top-10 opponent. Carolina competed against Ball State last February in a five-team meet at Kentucky.

Junior Krista Jasper competed in every event for the first time in her collegiate career at the George Washington Invitational where she placed third in all-around and third on floor exercise. The Birchrunville, Pa., native has also placed fourth on uneven bars three times this season. Jasper has fought an ankle injury this season, but she competes with grace and determination every day in practice and in competition.

Senior Kara Wright led the University of North Carolina gymnastics team to second place in a quad-meet at No. 6 Stanford that also featured the University of California and Eastern Michigan. The Tar Heels scored a team total 193.075 while host Stanford won Sunday’s meet, scoring a 196.525. The Tar Heels finished second to Stanford on every event.
