Amber Johnson and Danielle Spaulding combined to throw a no-hitter as the (16-3) No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels to a win over the (3-17) Cal State Fullerton Titans. A four-run sixth inning with big hits from Anna Roberts and Danielle Spaulding led Carolina’s offense on the way to the Tar Heels’ 15th straight win. This is the fifth time this season that the Tar Heels have thrown a no-hitter.

North Carolina senior pitcher/first baseman Danielle Spaulding and Maryland sophomore Kendra Knight were named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 8, announced today. Spaulding guided the nationally ranked Tar Heels to a 5-0 record for the week.

A two-run home run from Kelli Wheeler powered the No. 20 (15-3) North Carolina Tar Heels over the (3-6) Loyola Marymount Lions, 5-1 Amber Johnson held the Lions to one run on five hits as Carolina finished out the DeMarini Invitational undefeated.

Senior pitcher Danielle Spaulding pitched a masterful game for the No. 20 (14-3) North Carolina Tar Heels in a 3-0 win over the No. 10 (14-3) Stanford Cardinal. Spaulding dominated the Cardinal hitters, striking out 18 and carrying a perfect game into the seventh inning. Carolina now has four wins in the DeMarini Invitational and 13 straight this season. The Tar Heels are the only remaining team in the DeMarini Invitational still undefeated.

Thanks to another strong pitching performance from Amber Johnson and a home run down the right field line by first baseman Danielle Spaulding the No. 20 (13-3) North Carolina Tar Heels beat the (5-8) Pacific Tigers, 3-1. The win is Carolina’s third straight in the DeMarini invitational and 12th consecutive on the year. Johnson held Pacific to only two hits, carrying a no-hitter through six innings and earned her seventh win of the year as Carolina continues its hot streak.
