The Carolina volleyball team hosted a group of local athletes recently for its annual Special Olympics clinic. Held on Feb. 21 in Fetzer Gym, the two-hour session included instruction in basic skills for a Special Olympics of North Carolina volleyball team from Johnston County.

Three University of North Carolina volleyball players earned academic honors Tuesday, announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Heather Brooks, Branagan Fuller and Cora Harms were three members on the 30-member ACC All-Academic squad. Brooks is one of two members on the team, who has earned their third straight ACC All-Academic honor.

The University of North Carolina volleyball team will play four exhibitions this spring, including three in the state of North Carolina. All exhibitions will be in the form of team tournaments. Each tournament will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The University of North Carolina volleyball team finished 15th in the country in home attendance in 2009, averaging 2,032 fans per home match. Schools who hosted in the 2009 NCAA Tournament were able to add to their attendance totals – Florida State is the lone ACC team to host. Florida State was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the tournament in a 3-1 loss to Minnesota.

The University of North Carolina volleyball team signed three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, head coach Joe Sagula announced Monday. The three members of the class of 2014 are Kayla Berringer of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Chaniel Nelson of Huntersville, N.C. and Amy Parlier of Boulder, Colo.”I am delighted to welcome the 2010 class to our program. This is an outstanding class where all three student-athletes fill important needs for our team and display a diverse array of talents,” Sagula said.
