2012 Carolina Volleyball Camp registration is now open. Head coach Joe Sagula announced Carolina will host skills, specialized and team camps this summer in all air-conditioned facilities on campus in Carmichael Arena, Eddie Smith Field House and Fetzer Gym, beginning in July. UNC Honors Standout Student-Athletes

North Carolina student-athletes who are 2011-12 recipients of two prestigious honors – Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athletes and Tar Heel Leaders of Distinction – were recognized Thursday during halftime of the UNC men’s basketball team’s win over visiting NC State at the Dean E. Smith Center.

The 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award winner, as well as first and second team selections were announced Thursday prior to the semifinal rounds of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship in San Antonio, Texas. Kaylie Gibson was named a first team selection after leading North Carolina to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Senior Kaylie Gibson, junior Emily McGee and redshirt freshman Chaniel Nelson were named All-America honorable mention selections by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday. The trio marks the seventh, eighth and ninth AVCA All-America selections in Carolina volleyball history, joining Laura Greene (3rd, 2002), Molly Pyles (HM, 2004), Dani Nyenhuis (HM, 2005), Heather Brooks (HM, 2008), Brianna Eskola (HM, 2008) and Kaylie Gibson (HM, 2010).

A trio of North Carolina volleyball student-athletes earned All-East Region honors for their performance during the 2011 season as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday. Senior libero Kaylie Gibson and junior outside hitter Emily McGee earned first team All-East honors, while redshirt freshman Chaniel Nelson was named honorable mention.

Carolina Falls To No. 15 Seed Pepperdine

North Carolina fell, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) to the No. 15 overall national seed Pepperdine (24-6) in the second round of the NCAA tournament at Firestone Fieldhouse. Junior outside hitter Emily McGee compiled 18 kills, bringing her career total to 1,004, and sophomore Kayla Berringer pitched in 17 kills. The Tar Heels finish the year at 24-9, the 11th 20-win season under Joe Sagula’s tutelage.
