Tar Heels Claim 20-18 Win At NC State

North Carolina registered six wins, including a pair of major decisions, to claim a 20-18 dual victory at NC State Friday night. Thomas Ferguson and Zac Bennett spurred the Tar Heel victory with major decisions to open the dual.

Tomei Joins UNC Olympic RTC

North Carolina Head Coach C.D. Mock and Regional Training Center Head Coach Cary Kolat announced the addition of Olympic hopeful Ryan Tomei to the TTiGroup/UNC-RTC at Chapel Hill Friday. Tomei will take over for previous resident Jack Jensen who has enrolled in the military.

Tar Heels To Face Rival Wolfpack Friday

The North Carolina wrestling team will look to get back on the winning track Friday when it heads to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State in a dual set for 7 p.m. Friday at Reynolds Coliseum. The Tar Heels have won the last five meetings against the rival Wolfpack and will look to keep the streak going Friday.

UNC Honors Standout Student-Athletes

Kiss Awarded UNC Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award

Kyle Kiss is the winner of the 2011-12 Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award for the sport of wrestling. Kiss recently was honored at halftime of a UNC men’s basketball game with the honor.

Redshirts Compete At Appalachian Open

Navy Downs Carolina, 25-12

The North Carolina wrestling team jumped out to an early lead Saturday afternoon at Carmichael Arena but Navy battled back and won the last five bouts to claim a 25-12 dual win over the Tar Heels. Up next for the Tar Heels is a trip to Raleigh to take on rival NC State Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.

Tar Heels Fall To No. 13 Maryland

North Carolina fell by a 25-10 margin to visiting No. 13 Maryland Friday night at Carmichael Arena. Three Tar Heels earned victories led by sophomore Corey Mock at 157 pounds who pulled an upset over No. 11 Kyle John with an 11-2 major decision. Carolina will return to the mat Saturday at 1 p.m. when it takes on Navy.
