Seniors Send Tar Heels To Fourth Straight Regional Title

The bat of senior Garrett Gore and the right arm of classmate Adam Warren helped No. 4 national seed North Carolina claim its fourth straight regional title with a 12-1 win over Kansas Sunday in the finale of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Boshamer Stadium. Gore homered twice and drove in a career-high five runs, and Warren struck out eight over 6 2/3 shutout innings.

Two Tar Heels Will Move On to Nationals

The University of North Carolina track and field teams stepped into competition f on Friday at the East Regional looking to secure berths to the NCAA National Championships. Vanneisha Ivy and Ed Baldwin punched their tickets and more Tar Heels are looking to do the same.

Ackley Sets Hit Mark As Tar Heels Top Dartmouth

Dustin Ackley became North Carolina’s career base hit leader with a 3-for-5 effort and drove in two runs to pace No. 4 national seed North Carolina past Dartmouth, 5-2, Friday in the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels (43-16) move on to meet Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. Saturday, while Dartmouth (27-17) will face Kansas in an elimination game at 1 p.m.

Tar Heels Roll Past Coastal Carolina, 14-5

Levi Michael and Dustin Ackley had four hits apiece, and Colin Bates allowed just one hit over 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen to send No. 4 national seed North Carolina past Coastal Carolina, 14-5, in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional Saturday at Boshamer Stadium. The Chanticleers (47-15) will face Kansas in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Sunday, and the Tar Heels (44-16) will meet the winner at 5 p.m. with a chance to claim the regional title.
