The University of North Carolina volleyball team fell to Clemson Saturday 3-2 with set scores 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25 and 11-15. The Tar Heels fall to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in league play, while Clemson improves to 18-7 overall and 8-5 in league play. Carolina looked sharp again early and held a 2-1 lead, but Clemson rallied to win the final two sets handing the Tar Heels their third straight loss. Carolina never led after the third frame, as the Tigers registered seven of their nine blocks in sets four and five.

The North Carolina field hockey team finished off its regular-season schedule Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Old Dominion at the Lady Monarchs’ Powhatan Sports Complex. The shutout was UNC’s 12th of the season and boosted the Tar Heels’ record to 16-1. ODU, which lost 4-0 to Carolina on Sept. 18 in Chapel Hill, fell to 8-11 overall.

For the second successive year, the University of North Carolina women’s soccer team has had three players named to the ESPN The Magazine District 3 All-Academic Team as senior defender Kristi Eveland indvidually earned honors for the third year in a row while being joined this year by senior defender Whitney Engen and senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris who were also named to the 11-woman first-team squad.

The North Carolina cross country program competed in the 2009 ACC Championships on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park. The women took home fifth place and the men reached their goal of a sixth place finish, all while adding 13 new personal records among the Tar Heel runners.

After swimming in the NCAC Mile Meet last night, the Tar Heel swimming and diving teams defeated Georgia Tech at Koury Natatorium Halloween morning. The men’s team improved to 5-0, while the women picked up another win to go to 4-1. The UNC women defeated the Yellow Jackets 165-128 and the Tar Heel men won 166.5-119.5.
