The University of North Carolina softball team released their 2010 schedule, head coach Donna J. Papa announced Sunday. Carolina is coming off a 47-13 campaign and their eighth straight NCAA appearance. The Tar Heels also hosted their second straight NCAA Regional in 2009. The 2010 schedule will feature 12 NCAA tournament teams from a year ago, including four Super Regional teams and one WCWS participant.

The University of North Carolina’s swimming and diving teams have added 10 recruits during the fall signing period that ended earlier this month. Head swimming coach Rich DeSelm announced six men swimmers and four women swimmers who will join the team in the fall of 2010. The women’s signees are Danielle Jansen, Emily Kelly, Stephanie Peacock and Katie Rechsteiner. The men’s prospects include Patrick Ceddia, Alex Gianino, Walker Knop, Dan O’Connor, J.T. Stilley and Evan Virtue.

Nine University of North Carolina football players, including four first-team defensive selections, have been named to the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams as selected by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). Defensive end Robert Quinn, linebacker Quan Sturdivant, cornerback Kendric Burney and safety Deunta Williams earned first-team honors, while linebacker Bruce Carter, defensive tackle Marvin Austin and place-kicker Casey Barth were named to the second team. Tight end Zack Pianalto and offensive tackle Kyle Jolly were honorable-mention picks.

The University of North Carolina volleyball team signed three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, head coach Joe Sagula announced Monday. The three members of the class of 2014 are Kayla Berringer of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Chaniel Nelson of Huntersville, N.C. and Amy Parlier of Boulder, Colo.”I am delighted to welcome the 2010 class to our program. This is an outstanding class where all three student-athletes fill important needs for our team and display a diverse array of talents,” Sagula said.

The University of North Carolina volleyball team ranks 15th in the country in home attendance for the fourth consecutive week, averaging 2,032 fans per home match. In 12 matches hosted at the Dean E. Smith Center, a total of 24,385 fans have cheered on the Tar Heels. Two of the 12 matches have featured over 1,000 Carolina fans – 12,724 fans in a 3-1 win over rival Duke and 7,150 fans this past Friday in a 3-1 win over Virginia. Carolina is the lone ACC team ranked amongst the top 25 schools, while Georgia Tech (47), Clemson (48), Duke (52) and Virginia Tech (55) are all appear in the top 60.
