Italee Lucas scored 17 points to help No. 7 North Carolina defeat East Tennessee State 104-65 on Thursday.Cetera DeGraffenreid and She’la White added 15 points apiece for the Tar Heels (11-1), who reached 100 points for the first time this season. Martina Wood had a career-high 12 points and Waltiea Rolle added 12 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina.

Butch Davis didn’t wait for the ball to drop in Times Square before he focused on 2010. By the time he met the media after Carolina’s 19-17 loss to Pitt, he was already declaring it was time to move ahead. And with good reason–his Tar Heels will move into the national spotlight next season.

Four University of North Carolina wrestlers remain in the hunt for individual titles at the conclusion of day one of the 2009 Southern Scuffle Tuesday at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. As a team, Carolina stands in a tie for 16th place with 24 points. No. 5-ranked Minnesota leads the event with 50 points.

Ed Davis had 18 points to help No. 9North Carolina beat Albany 87-70 on Wednesday night. Deon Thompson added 15 points for the Tar Heels (11-3), who had an easy time in their next-to-last game before opening Atlantic Coast Conference play. Despite being short-handed, North Carolina built a double-digit lead midway through the first half and coasted the rest of the way for its third straight win since losing to No. 2 Texas.

North Carolina junior Thomas Scotton defeated a pair of nationally-ranked opponents Wednesday to take the 157-pound title at the 2009 Southern Scuffle at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. With four grapplers earning top-eight finishes, Carolina placed ninth in the team standings with 68.5 points. No. 8 Cornell took the team crown with 164 points.
