Tar Heels Fall To Virginia, 75-60

Sylven Landesberg scored 29 points and Virginia ran off 18 unanswered points early in the second half to beat North Carolina 75-60 on Sunday night. Virginia had lost 63 of 68 meetings in Chapel Hill, but blew the game open by holding the Tar Heels without a field goal for nearly 8 minutes.

Virginia Game Guide

North Carolina will host Virginia as both teams fight to stay in the thick of the ACC race. Virginia was the last team to lose a conference game, starting 3-0, but the Cavaliers have lost two straight. The Tar Heels are coming off their first true road win of the season. Like Carolina, Virginia is 1-3 on the road. Carolina leads the series with the Cavaliers, 124-48, and has won six straight. Carolina is 21-2 against Virginia in the Smith Center and 63-5 in Chapel Hill; Virginia’s last two wins in Chapel Hill came in 2000 and 2002.

No. 12 Carolina Hosts No. 13 Florida State Monday

North Carolina (16-3, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) looks to extend a three-game winning streak when the Tar Heels host Florida State Monday evening at 7:06 at Carmichael Arena. UNC rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to defeat NC State, 81-69, Jan. 25 in Raleigh. Florida State is coming off a 73-43 loss at Duke on Friday night. Carolina is ranked No. 12 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the coaches’ poll. Florida State is ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and No. 14 in the coaches’ poll.

No. 17 Carolina Tops No. 33 Boise State, 7-0

No. 17 North Carolina won a tight doubles point before sweeping all six singles matches in a 7-0 win over No. 33 Boise State to open the ITA Kickoff Weekend Saturday afternoon at Notre Dame’s Eck Tennis Pavilion. With the victory, Carolina advances to face the winner of Notre Dame-DePaul match for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
